What is a Freight Bill ?

A shipment carrier issues a freight bill, which contains the details of shipment and the terms of shipment. The details included in a standard freight bill are:

• Description of the freight
• Weight
• Charges
• Rate for charges
• Terms of the shipment

Types of Freight Bills

Two common types of freight bills are:

Prepaid freight bill: when the charges are to be collected in advance or paid by shipper Collect shipment: when the charges are to be collected on delivery or paid by the consignee

How is a Freight Bill Processed at VeeMove ?

Data Entry Process

• The freight bills of lading are scanned and saved on the client's server.
• The scanned bills are accessed by VeeMove through the software provided by the client.
• Processors from our expert data entry teams access these images, each using an individual user ID and password to log in to the client server, and to begin the data entry process.
• The process involves dual keying of the bills.
• In the first entry, 9 critical fields are keyed and the resultant data is compared with the existing database for duplicity of bills.
• After the above verification, the duplicates are removed and the second level of indexing the complete data is carried out.
• In the second level about 30 to 45 fields, varying according to the individual client's requirements, are indexed.
• The resultant output is directly saved into the database of the client.

Auditing Processing

• The freight bills indexed are compared through advanced billing software, for the amount charged by the carrier.
• If there is a difference between the billed amount and the amount payable as per the contract, freight bill auditing is carried out.
• An expert team of auditors at VeeMove study each bill, and compare the billed amount and the contractual obligation of the client to pay on the bill. They resolve the freight bill payment by recommending the amount to be paid on this bill.
• Freight bills which are above a certain specified amount, and bills where the accessorial charges exceed a predetermined percentage to the total amount, are audited for better accuracy.
